Phoenix Convention Center

Phoenix, Arizona

The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists invites you to set a course for the 2011 ASCP Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Phoenix, Arizona. Only here will you learn the most up-to-date clinical, business, and regulatory information; discover the latest pharmacy and health information technologies; and establish the professional contacts that are critical for today's consultant and senior care pharmacy practitioners, managers, and business owners.

Why Attend?

At the 2011 ASCP Annual Meeting and Exhibition, you will find:

  • Education custom designed for you — three days of unparalleled learning from the most knowledgeable experts

  • Interactive workshops — full-day, intensive training to build your skills and enhance your practice

  • Face-to-face interaction with more than 100 vendors offering the products and services your business or practice needs to succeed

  • In-depth looks at the latest reserach findings, new pharmaceutical products, and innovative technologies

  • Invaluable connections with others who share your professional interests and passions

Many travel and training budgets have been slashed, and in our sluggish economy, funds are tight for meeting attendance. Regardless of the merits of attending this conference, you may need to justify the expense to your employer. Here are some things you might want to consider doing:

  • Focus on what you will bring back to the company as return for the investment.

  • Offer to prepare and deliver a presentation and Q&A to your colleagues to share what you learn. That way, others in your practice will receive the benefit of your attendance also.

  • Share the session handouts with your colleagues. As an attendee, you have unlimited access to the materials presented by speakers.

  • If you are not a member of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, consider joining the association. All members receive a subscription to our peer-reviewed journal The Consultant Pharmacist and discounts on meeting registration fees, products, and continuing education, plus many more benefits. Your membership will pay for itself the first time you attend one of our national conferences!

  • If you are attending the conference to obtain continuing education (CE) credits or you are studying for the Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy credential, remind your supervisor that this is a great way to earn many CE credits in a short amount of time and is less expensive than registering for individual programs or separate conferences. It also requires less time away from your practice.

  • Be ready with a plan for who will cover for you while you are attending the conference.

  • Be sure to check out the registration page where the various rates are listed and see if you qualify for any of the lower rates or discounts.

Plan Your Event

Plan your agenda at the ASCP Annual Meeting and Exhibition here.

Exhibit hours are scheduled at times separate from education sessions each day, so you don’t have to choose between earning CE credits and the opportunity to spend time with the companies offering innovative products and services to help your business or practice thrive. Explore the interactive exhibit hall floor plan and determine which companies you want to spend time with. Note: Due to health and safety considerations, children under the age of 16 will not be admitted to the exhibit hall.

Spouse/Guest Registration

A Great Value

You are encouraged to register your spouse and guests accompanying you to the meeting. In addition to all that Phoenix and the surrounding area has to offer, they will enjoy the benefits of being a registered spouse or guest at the meeting, including:

  • Admittance to all education sessions, many of which have broad appeal (sorry, no CE credit for this registration category)
  • Admittance to the exhibit hall all three days
  • Admittance to the Kick-Off Reception on Wednesday evening

Area Information

America’s sunniest metropolis, sixth largest city, gateway to the Grand Canyon…you’ll find Phoenix is rich in the spirit of puebloans, real cowboys, and visionaries.

First occupied between 700 AD and 1400 AD by the Hohokams (the people who have gone), Phoenix was officially recognized in 1868. It was named Phoenix inasmuch as the new town would spring from the ruins of a former civilization. Today, greater Phoenix covers about 2,000 square miles and has a population of more than 4.2 million.

Culture abounds in Phoenix with such diverse activities as the Desert Botanical Garden, the Heard Museum, the Phoenix Art Museum, and the Arizona Science Center. If you’re looking for outdoor activities, visit Camelback Mountain, Piestawa Peak, and South Mountain for over 50 miles of hiking trails. And, of course, there are golf courses everywhere. Discover all the area has to offer here.

ASCP's official travel agency Association Travel Concepts (ATC) can help you plan your attraction itinerary in advance of your arrival. To schedule activities after you arrive in Phoenix, visit the concierge desk at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown.

What to Wear

The average November temperatures in Phoenix are a high of 74˚F and a low of 47˚F. ASCP recommends business casual attire while attending the education sessions and visiting the exhibit hall. Since it is always difficult to control the temperature in meeting rooms, we strongly urge you to bring a light jacket or sweater to the sessions.

Green Meetings

ASCP is committed to environmental stewardship and implementing sustainable practices as an integral part of our events. Our goals are to:
  • Minimize or eliminate any real or potential negative environmental impact
  • Educate our staff, exhibitors, local hosts, and guests about responsible green choices they can make for their events and their own lives, both personal and professional
  • Demonstrate the economic and community benefits of greening

Like many organizations, ASCP is working to deliver more environmentally responsible meetings. We hope the incremental eco-improvements we are making with our own events will offer ideas and inspire you as well.

During the planning and execution of our meeting, we will:

  • Reduce paper mailings through the use of electronic communication for registration, confirmations, and surveys
  • Provide each attendee with a water bottle to refill and use throughout the meeting
  • Minimize the amount of signage waste through the use of plasma screens and re-usable signage wherever possible
  • Provide conference materials via electronic media

Please join us in these efforts and take steps to go green and make a difference.
