Area InformationAmerica’s sunniest metropolis, sixth largest city, gateway to the Grand Canyon…you’ll find Phoenix is rich in the spirit of puebloans, real cowboys, and visionaries.
First occupied between 700 AD and 1400 AD by the Hohokams (the people who have gone), Phoenix was officially recognized in 1868. It was named Phoenix inasmuch as the new town would spring from the ruins of a former civilization. Today, greater Phoenix covers about 2,000 square miles and has a population of more than 4.2 million.
Culture abounds in Phoenix with such diverse activities as the Desert Botanical Garden, the Heard Museum, the Phoenix Art Museum, and the Arizona Science Center. If you’re looking for outdoor activities, visit Camelback Mountain, Piestawa Peak, and South Mountain for over 50 miles of hiking trails. And, of course, there are golf courses everywhere. Discover all the area has to offer here. ASCP's official travel agency Association Travel Concepts (ATC) can help you plan your attraction itinerary in advance of your arrival. To schedule activities after you arrive in Phoenix, visit the concierge desk at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown.
What to WearThe average November temperatures in Phoenix are a high of 74˚F and a low of 47˚F. ASCP recommends business casual attire while attending the education sessions and visiting the exhibit hall. Since it is always difficult to control the temperature in meeting rooms, we strongly urge you to bring a light jacket or sweater to the sessions.
